It's fall y'all and time for a new season of TV!!!

I have felt completely unmotivated this late summer to research and write the blog for this upcoming TV season. Shame on me, I have failed my duty to you all to be on my top TV watching game so that you don't have such a hard time slogging through all of the options and deciding what to watch this fall; BUT as some shows are starting THIS WEEK... I figured I should get on the ball. As always I have done the heavy lifting for you, you're welcome- I am willing to accept tokens of gratitude in the form of unending compliments and gift cards.
This coming fall season will the first since 2000 that I don't have cable/satellite and the first year since probably 2005 that we don't have DVR which means that any show I commit to will really be the tits because I don't have it all recorded at my fingertips whenever I want to watch. The following underlined shows are linked to a preview so you can check out what they're about. You're welcome.

Monday

Life in Pieces CBS- September 21- 7:30- I have seen countless advertisements for Life in Pieces this summer while watching Big Brother and it didn't look all that good, however the linked preview makes me want to like it. There is a pretty solid cast so I will definitely give this one at least an episode or 2 to catch my attention. It seems partly cheesy and meh and partly great, maybe just because of the cast I want to watch just a little bit.

Supergirl CBS-October 26- 7:30- I'm not really into the" superhero thing" I still have yet to watch any of The Avenger movies.  I had no intention of watching Supergirl, why would I? BUT after watching this preview, it looks GOOD- maybe even if you're not into the supers. I doubt I'll have time to add this to my very busy TV schedule this fall considering my lack of DVR but we'll see.

Minority Report FOX- September 21- 8::00- I don't know what to think about this one yet, based on the great movie with kookoopants Tom Cruise- the show could be amazing, or it could be a complete disappointment- it really could go either way.  I will for sure watch at least one episode and decide where to go from there.

Blindspot -NBC- September 21- 9:00- This show looks so badass, I really hope it lives up to the potential shown in the preview.  It reminds me of a cross between the movie Memento and the TV show Blacklist. I'm very interested to see whether or not it will be a success, I certainly think it could be an action packed hit.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend- CW- October 19- 7:00-  I don't know what to think about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, I don't relate to this psycho at all. I'm sure we, the audience are supposed to feel pity for her and feel like pulling for the underdog in a lighthearted crazy chick way... But I feel like there are genuinely people out there in the world who will relocate to another part of the country for a nonexistent relationship and that's kind of scary. So I vote no on this craziness if for no other reason than to discourage craziness.

Tuesday

Muppets ABC- September 22- 7:00- WHAT?!?!? I was excited about this show the moment I saw a preview for it. I CAN'T WAIT!  I love the parody "The Office" filming style and potential story line. I think that this will introduce The Muppets to a whole new generation of people. Yay!

Fresh off the boat ABC- September 22- 7:30- If you don't watch Fresh off the Boat, there's something Whong with you.... ha! get it??  Whong? Blue loves those kinds of jokes. Chad and I have enjoyed "Fresh" since it premiered last season. Do I relate to the title character Eddie who has a strict Asian mother? No. But is so funny! If you haven't watched and you like to laugh you should check it out, and if you don't like Fresh of the Boat- you're racist.

Quantico -ABC- September 27- 9:00- As much as I like action mystery type shows- this one seems VERY implausible. Maybe not, but generally I feel that a federal agent who has custody of a terror suspect doesn't release them on the hunch that they are innocent and being framed, then advise them to clear their name whilst on the run from the federal government.  That may have worked in 1997 but that won't fly today... They'd have a drone on her in no time. So I don't think this one will be a keeper.

***Wicked City  ABC-October 27- 9:00-  Somehow in my initial research I skipped this show which is a huge mistake, because Wicked City looks AMAZING!!  Ed Westwick and Erika Christensen play two psychos who fall in love and kill people, set on Sunset Strip in the 80s there will be plenty of great music and murder, lots of murder.  I can't wait!!

Limitless  CBS- September 22- 9:00- I was so excited when I saw that Limitless was going to be a new TV show. First of all, Bradley Cooper, second of all- Limitless the movie was great.  If they stick with the story and keep tidbits of BC peppered about- I'm in! However I will say that bearded Bradley Cooper is not so hot, I guess the beard is his flaw.

NCIS:New Orleans- how is this show still on the air? The accents alone are enough to make me want to strangle them all. Please, world at large do not judge Louisiana on the horrendous accents
displayed in this atrocious show

Grandfathered FOX- September 29- 7:00-  I am 99% sure this show is going to tank.  John Stamos plays a fancyschmancy restaurant owner who says he wants nothing more than a family, then what to his wondering eyes do appear.... a grown son with a young daughter.  Of course hilarity ensues (not really, just predictable hijinks). I'll pass.

The Grinder  - FOX- September 29- 7:30- I SO want The Grinder to be a good show because: Rob Lowe. Also Fred Savage is in it so this show may be good- but they could have maybe thought of a better name for "The Grinder"- because I just think gay hookup app, but maybe that's just me... and every gay guy.  The premise is that Rob Lowe's character has been a lawyer on TV for 8ish seasons, when the series ends he decides he should become a real lawyer like his dad and brother.  There is potential for good/bad is equal.

Scream Queens FOX- September 22- 7:00- SCREAM QUEENS!!! This show seems like a cross between the movie Scream and American Horror Story: Coven (which is my favorite so far). Created by the creator of AHS and Glee.... I think it will rock.
Evil sorority bitches and their pledges have horror reigned upon them, what could be better?

Heartbreaker -NBC-There are too many medical dramas, FAR too many.  Heartbreaker stars some chick who plays a heart surgeon who... something something blaah blaah- it doesn't really look that good. Also I can't remember what the main chick is in, but I remember not being a fan of her, at all. Blaah. PASS!!
Delayed due to pregnancy- that's ok, it looks like it sucks anyway.

Best Time Ever -NBC- September 15- 9:00- Neil Patrick Harris stars in a new variety show. I don't know if anybody even watches variety shows or not, I heard it's pretty awesome and will probably give it a try. So if you're a fan of the variety show, give it a shot!!  After all, Neil Patrick Harris is pretty dang awesome!

iZombie- CW- October 6- 8:00-  I LOVE iZombie! It's obviously not a realistic show but the premise is: a med student gets scratched by an infected person on a houseboat party, everyone onboard dies... or do they?  Med student wakes up in a body bag the next day with a hankering for brains, she quits med studenting and starts working at the morgue- with plenty of access to brains for eating. However when she eats brains she takes on the brain's former owner's personality traits and memories- sometimes allowing her to help solve murder mysteries. This coming season is the second, so if you have a chance to catch up, I recommend that you do.

Wednesday

The Goldbergs-ABC -September 23- 7:30 The Goldbergs is one of our favorite shows that comes on TV!  It totally reminds me of growing up in the 80s.  Chad's mom is totally Beverly Goldberg, it's definitely the throwback wonder years type show for 30 somethings. If you haven't watched it yet, you should!

Survivor- CBS- September 23- 7:00- I sometimes watch Survivor and sometimes don't, but this time with Shreveport Fire Department's own Keith returning for the second chance season- check it out!!!

Code Black- CBS- September 30- 9:00- Meeeeh, I'm really not feeling it.  Besides the fact that there are far too many medical dramas on TV, Code Black seems unrealistic at best. The dialogue is cheesy and predictable and the medical cases presented thus far seem overly dramatisized.  I vote no on Code Black, however I'm also usually very wrong about shows that don't appeal to me so it may be a complete hit!!

Rosewood-FOX- September 23- 7:00- I think I want to like Rosewood... but I don't think I will, it's just a gut feeling. Are there private pathologists that police departments hire to do super special autopsies? I feel like a police department doesn't have the budget for that.  Plus the sexual tension between him and the lead detective seems forced, or at least nonexistent. I'll pass.

Empire- FOX- September 23 - 8:00-  I belatedly watched the first season of Empire, I binge watched it all in a day. It was SO good!!! If you haven't watched season one yet, you still have time,

Mysteries of Laura- NBC- September 23- 7:00- HOW is this show still on TV??  It seems like a spoof cop show... except it's not, the dialogue is SO bad. How bad is it you ask? Do any real life police officers pull their gun and say "game over"? I'm pretty sure the answer to that is an emphatic NO. Don't watch this show, seriously.

Thursday
I can't wait for TGIT, even though it will start at 7pm and I won't be able to watch real time, I'll mostly have to watch belatedly online... my heaert still belongs to Grey's, Scandal and HTGAWM

Grey's Anatomy ABC- September 24- 7:00- Who doesn't love Grey's? Exactly!!!

Scandal -ABC-September 24- 8:00- WHAAAAT?  Finally! I don't see puppies and rainbows ahead for Fitz and Liv but... I have a hope that in the end they'll ride off into the sunset together.

How to Get Away With Murder-ABC- September 24- 9:00- If I ever need a murder lawyer I hope to have one like Analise, she rocks. Her law students not so much, those murdery students!

Angel from Hell- CBS- November 5- 8:30- I love Jane Lynch, she's the best.  Jane plays a guardian angel for a doctor who needs to loosen up a little. From the commercial Angel from Hell looks hilarious and I hope that it will be.

Heroes Reborn- NBC- September 24- 7:00- I watched Heroes the first time around until I quit watching when it started getting a little twisty and complicated. Also I wasn't a fan of Milo Ventimiglia's mouth.   Heroes Reborn looks like it'll be good for any of you who are fans of the original.

Blacklist- NBC- October 1- 8:00- SO GOOD, watch it.

The Player -NBC- September 24- 9:00- Whoa, The Player looks more like an action packed movie than a weekly TV show. There's an elite group of rich people who bet on crimes. I really don't know any other way to describe the show, but I'm going to watch it!

Vampire Diaries-CW- October 8- 7:00
The Originals- CW- October 8- 8:00

Friday
Dr. Ken- ABC- October 2- 7:30- Even though I love the real Dr. Ken...I really don't know if I'll even watch one episode of the show, I'm so not a fan of laugh track comedies so I'm 99% sure I'm out on Dr. Ken. Sorry doc.
Amazing Race

People Are Talking -NBC- October 16- 7:30- Mostly I think people are talking about how horrible this show looks... seriously, it looks like a total stinker.  The first indication being that they have changed the name from Truth be Told to People are Talking  since the trailer was released on youtube.  It just doesn't look very funny. As much as I like Mark Paul Gosselaar... I just can't.

Saturday
*** Ash vs. Evil Dead  STARZ- October 31- 8:00-  I usually don't do most pay cable shows on here because there are so many and I don't watch most.... but LOVED Army of Darkness (the 3rd movie in the Evil Dead series) when I was younger. Will I watch Ash vs. Evil Dead? Probably not, but I might just for a little throwback feel.

Sunday

***The Walking Dead AMC-October 11-8:00- Oh Muh Guuuh- This season of The Walking Dead looks like it is going to be SOOOOO good!!!  I can't wait until the 90 minute premiere.  For those who have been bored for the past season-ish- this season my jumpstart some new excitement.

***Into the Badlands  AMC-November 15- 9:00- I hadn't heard of Into the Badlands until I did some further digging on new shows premiering this fall.  It looks like a man's man's badass show for sure.

Blood and Oil- ABC- September 27-8:00- This looks like a cross between Dallas and any other random drama. There's blood and oil (obviously) but also family drama, sex, fights, guns, dirt and money. I feel like Blood and Oil will be a dramatic hit. I'll watch it for sure.

Of Kings and Prophets ABC- TBA- Of Kings and Prophets is about something in the bible... please excuse my ignorance and exaustedness and not wanting to research exactly who and what it's about beyond the broad description of "something in the bible". Of Kings and Prophets looks like it could be a really good show.

Brooklyn Nine Nine- FOX- September 27- 7:30- Andy Samberg- LOVE HIM. Watch it.

Last Man on Earth FOX- September 27- 8:30- Apparently this show is HIGHLY controversial and people either love it or hate it, I for one love it and can't wait for season two.  What will President Tandy's next adventure be??

2014 Fall TV Shows

I can't believe it's almost time for 2014 Fall TV Premiere season,  this past year has gone by so quickly!  Possibly because I have a kindergartener now so we're doing all of THAT and we've been working on our camp.  As always I have done a thorough and in depth research... I mean- I watched the previews of all of the new shows and am here to tell you what I think about them.  It is completely up to you to decide if our TV show tastes are the same, obviously I watch only the best TV shows and don't watch horrible ones at all.  I won't be including premiere dates for any shows starting in the winter/spring time frame and all times listed are Central time zone, because that's where I'm at y'all!  And please remember that I have an extreme bias against any show with a "laugh track", so I hold little hope for any of them who rely on adding their own laughs.  After watching the previews and researching some of the shows- there seem to be quite a few winners premiering, a few iffy ones and some real stinkers. I hope you enjoy reading my Fall TV rundown and maybe stumble upon something that y'all might not have watched otherwise.

Mondays

*FOX-7PM Series Premiere September 22nd  Gotham.  The preview takes place in an unspecified year, Bruce Wayne's parents are killed and he's befriended by Detective Gordon.  "Witness the origins of the infamous city... before Penguin, before Cat Woman, before Riddler, before Poison Ivy, before Batman... there was Gotham",  and THAT is a pretty catchy tagline y'all. The "future villains" are all children/young adults and will be in the show.  It's basically a Batman prequel TV show so.... Smallville but for Batman instead of Superman? The cast looks pretty solid with Jada Pinkett Smith and Donal Logue plus quite a few new faces. I will definitely watch 1 episode but will probably not going to add it to  my permanent watch list.  I just don't care enough to commit to it and have so many other things that I do want to watch.  Gotham looks like it has the potential to be good- I guess we'll see!

CW-7PM Season 2 October 6th  The Originals.  If you watch The Vampire Diaries you are familiar with the Mikaelson family aka The Original vampires namely Klaus, Elijah, Rebecca. To be honest, I now like The Originals better than Vampire Diaries. If you like vampire shows but have never seen The Originals- I highly recommend it.  Here's a super simplifiedish rundown of The Originals: Klaus, Elijah and Rebecca basically built New Orleans way back in the day and made a home there for many years, they presently have tired of Mystic Falls and moved back to New Orleans. Things have changed and there's a power struggle between Klaus and the current master of the city Marcel- who Klaus raised and turned into a vampire back in the 1800s.  Marcel and Rebecca have a secret affair, there's lots of backstabbing and plotting against everyone. Klaus' onetime werewolf fling Haley is pregnant with a half werewolf half vampire baby, meanwhile Elijah falls for pregnant Haley. There's some crazy witch sacrifice harvest ritual.... far too much to fully explain but if any of that sounded intriguing- catch up ASAP!  I can't wait to see what happens with the new baby, the witches, the werewolves and the semi love triangle.

CBS-7PM Season 8 September 22nd  The Big Bang Theory
CBS-7PM Season 4 October 27th  2 Broke Girls
CBS-7:30 Season 2 September 29th  Mom

FOX-8PM Season 2 September 22nd  Sleepy Hollow. I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Sleepy Hollow. I am almost always a fan of supernatural type shows, especially ones that have someone who's somehow far outlived their natural lifespan. If you haven't watched the first season, it's not too late to get caught up with Ichabod Crane and "Leftenant" Abbie Mills.  A short synopsis: Guy wakes up dressed in old fashioned clothes, gets picked up by the police- he's obviously crazy claiming to KNOW George Washington. People are getting beheaded and this guy knows something about it. Turns out Ichabod Crane isn't crazy, he just woke from a witch induced 200 year "sleep". He and one of the horsemen of the apocalypse have risen, the horseman to begin the apocalypse and Ichabod to try to stop him. This is a very well written show with witty dialogue, great cast and special effects. I can't wait for the next season to premiere!

*CBS-8PM Series Premiere September 22nd  Scorpion.  From the few commercials that came on TV that I completely didn't pay attention to AT ALL, this show didn't even catch my attention. BUT when I sat down and actually watched the preview, I think Scorpion definitely has some potential.  Based on a real person: genius guy and his genius co-workers (a team that he has assembled) are recruited by Homeland Security to avert an airplane disaster. It's one of those "will they make it? will they save everything, or will they run out of time and everybody dies?" type show. Overall Scorpion looks good, the dialogue seems good and barring any DVR conflicts I will definitely watch at least a couple of episodes.

NBC-9PM Season 2 September 22nd  The Blacklist.  James Spader is phenomenal and that's really all I should have to say about this show.  BUT if you need to be convinced: Spader plays Raymond Redford an internationally known and wanted criminal who turns himself in to the FBI with a "deal" that he will help them catch other criminals both known and unknown for "freedom".  It turns out he's mostly using the FBI to get rid of his criminal enemies and competition.  I was hooked from the first episode, there's nothing I don't like about The Blacklist. Watch It.

ABC-9PM Season 7 September 29th  Castle
CBS-9PM Season 6 September 29th  NCIS:Los Angeles

Tuesdays

*ABC-7PM Series Premiere September 30th  Selfie.  I don't know how I feel about this show, it possibly has the potential to not suck, but I can also see it being so absolutely stupid.  Preview: Super self involved 20something is "instafamous" and her life revolves around herself and supposed "fame", then she realizes that she doesn't actually have any real friends.  Her boss(?) attempts to teach her how to interact and be a normal caring face to face person.  I will watch ONE episode and if it doesn't really grab me I can't see myself watching full time.

*ABC-7:30 Series Premiere September 30th Manhattan Love Story.  I wasn't wowed by the preview to this but I also was curious to see exactly what it will have to offer.  It is described as: an unfiltered internal monologue of a young man and young woman as they begin a relationship together. I LIKE the "hearing their thoughts" part but I don't know if I relate to the "people" that these characters are.  The guy seems like an overly confident ass and the girl, a meek purse obsessed person- which I don't identify with at all. I don't know... I will definitely watch at least one episode- possibly more but it will really have to wow me.

*FOX-7PM Series Premiere September 7th Utopia.  So this is a reality show- it is created by the guy who does Big Brother (which is a plus for me).  The premise is that for 1 full year some strangers who are all completely different are put into a situation where they must build and create their own society. They must grow their own food, make their own laws, elect their own leaders.  It will be filmed in Big Brother style with multiple cameras everywhere at all times.  It could be interesting but I feel like they may have a heavy hand at editing or intervention productionwise ala Bachelor to "stage" conflicts etc.  Not sure if I'll be tuning in.

*CW-7PM Series Premiere October 7th  The Flash.  The CW is great at making superhero TV shows.  Admittedly I don't really watch superhero type shows but I have caught a few here and there and they are generally well written, well acted and for the fan of that genre they're good shows.  I literally know nothing about the character The Flash except that he's a guy in a red suit who runs fast. Sorry, my inner nerd lies outside the realm of comics.  With that being said, I have no clue how closely/loosely the TV show will be in based on the comics.  The preview did look good, and if I were in the market for a new superhero show I'd be all over it. Question: Does having lightning bolts on the ears of your superhero costume make you faster?

CBS-7PM Season 12 September 23rd  NCIS

*CBS-8PM Series Premiere September 23rd  NCIS:New Orleans.  I honestly wouldn't even mention this show if it weren't taking place IN New Orleans, one of the best cities in the south.  I feel it is my duty as a native Louisianian to say that A) the "southern" accents in this show are atrocious.  B) NOBODY from here pronounces it New Yore-lins C) the southern accents are SO bad.  Scott Bakula is in it- and I like him, but not enough to watch this show.  I don't watch any of the CSI/NCIS shows anymore- they are all pretty much the same show just set in different cities, to different soundtracks and varying levels of lighting. I have better TV to watch but if you chose to tune in to NCIS:NOLA beware that the accents you hear are NOT authentic and I, for one am offended.

*NBC-8PM Series Premiere October 14th  Marry Me.  I love it already. As a rabid Happy Endings fan I was so excited to see that Casey Wilson (aka Penny Hartz from Happy Endings) and Ken Marino (from a lot of random stuff) are starring as a couple who are at that engaged-ish stage of life. I hope against hope that this show will make it. If you liked Happy Endings you should definitely give Marry Me a try.

NBC-8:30 Season 2 October 14th  About A Boy.   I'm not sure how many people watched season 1 of About A Boy because I never heard anybody talking about it but me, my mother-in-law and neighbor- mostly we were talking about it together.  First of all it stars Minnie Driver, so it's gotta be good right? She's a weird hippity dippity vegan single mom who moves in next door to a player-ish single manchild.  Manchild becomes her kid's kindof friend/father figure. It's a very well written show- every episode makes me laugh, I hope more people than just me, my neighbor and my mother-in-law watch season two.  Give it a try why don't ya?

FOX-8PM Season 4 September 16th  New Girl.  I have been a New Girl fan since the very first episode. If you don't like Jessica Day and those weirdo misfit boys she lives with I don't think we can be friends. I love all of the characters in so many different ways (except for Ce-Ce she's just kindof "meh" most of the time).  I want Schmidt to be my gay best friend (I know he's not gay... OR IS HE?), I want Coach to be my personal trainer, I want Nick to be my grumpy neighbor and I want Jess to be my best friend.  What about Winston you might ask? Eeeeh,  I'm not sure exactly where he fits into my life- but somewhere for sure.  Also, I still want to learn how to play True American but there are SO MANY rules!!

FOX-8:30 Season 3 September 16th  The Mindy Project.   I LOVE this show!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again- The Mindy Project is a HORRIBLE NAME for a show. I truly believe that their ratings suffer because some people just don't want to watch based solely on the show's name... also the "theme music" awful.  That being said Mindy Kaling is hilarious.  While I didn't particularly like her character Kelley in The Office, I was glad when she got her own show- despite the name.  I relate to the character Dr. Mindy Lahiri, I'm not really sure why as I am not Indian, not a doctor, nor am I single- but there's something about her that just speaks to me. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Dr. Mindy Lahiri grow and change and realize that she DOES need a man to make her happy, and also pastries-but that she doesn't have to settle for a jerkface NBA PR guys or a weirdo rapping preacher.  I love last season's addition of Dr. Peter Prentice (Adam Pally from Happy Endings) as the frat boy doctor of the OB/GYN practice.  If you don't watch The Mindy Project and you DO like to laugh- you should probably check it out... just sayin'.

ABC-8PM Season 2 September 23rd  Marvel: Agents of Sheild.  I watched 4 episodes in season 1 and I did enjoy it but as stated above I'm not that into superhero stuff.
CW-8 Season 10 October 7th  Supernatural

*ABC-9PM Series Premiere September 23rd  Forever.  I feel like I've seen this show or one very similar before somewhere. The premise is this: a medical examiner that can eerily predict the cause of death for his "patients", many times without ever doing an autopsy on them first.  Then we find out that he doesn't die, or, at least not for long. Every time Dr. Henry Morgan "dies", he wakes back up in a body of water... and he's always naked.  Present day he gets introduced to a detective who he's going to help solve crimes and of course her detective skills cause her to be suspicious of him and HIS "detective" skills.  There are also flashbacks to his former lives in "ye olde time". As mentioned before I DO like shows with supernaturalish type occurrences in it, if the writing and acting is good I may add this to my list of keepers.

CBS-9PM Season 4 September 23rd  Person of Interest.  I have never watched an episode of this show, people tell me it's fantastic but it never appealed to me.
NBC-9PM  Season 3 September 23rd  Chicago Fire.   I watched some of the premiere episode and knew immediately that it was not in any way a "realistic" fire show, so I stopped watching.  First of all if anybody believes that every fireman looks like an abercrombie and fitch model, you're deluded.

Wednesdays

*NBC-7PM Series Premiere September 24th  The Mysteries of Laura.  I love Debra Messing but this show just doesn't look like it's going to be great.  She's a single mom dealing with an ex-husband and two young boys and she works as a police detective.  Some of the dialogue was cheesy, not predictable-but not great. I will watch one episode but I very seriously doubt that this will make it onto my DVR list.

ABC-7:30 Season 2 September 24th  The Goldbergs.  I don't know how anyone who was a kid, teen or parent in the 80s could not like this show.  It is a total 80s flashback of life pre-cell phone, pre-texting, pre-DVR, pre-internet, and pre-good video game graphics.  It embraces a time when parents still called their kids a moron, brushed their 8 year old's teeth, spied on their kids by reading diaries and all wore matching windsuits.  The best part about The Goldbergs to me is that it is based on a real family- at the end of every episode they play a clip from real home videos from said family.  I am certain that my mother-in-law WAS Beverly Goldberg when she was raising my husband.

ABC-7PM Season 6 September 24th  The Middle.  I started out watching The Middle when it premiered and I liked it but after a couple of seasons I lost interest and there were other, better shows that needed the DVR time. Sorry Heck family!
CBS-7PM Season 29  September 24th  Survivor.
CW-7PM Season 3 October 8th  Arrow.

ABC-8PM Season 6 September 24th  Modern Family.   This has been a solidly good show since it premiered, there's always something funny in every episode but it has been getting a little less "must see" as of late. I'll still record it and probably watch- but not like I used to before they replaced Lillie with that annoying girl "new Lillie".

*FOX-8PM Series Premiere September 17th  Red Band Society.   Set in a children's hospital there are a bunch of sick kids who form friendships because of their illnesses and the amount of time they spend together in the hospital. They form a "club" and all wear red hospital bands.  This show holds very little interest to me at all.  Octavia Spencer is in it- but that's about all that appeals to me. I'll watch one episode, maybe it'll grab my interest... we'll see.

*ABC-8:30 Series Premiere September 24th  Black-ish.  Starring Anthony Anderson and Lawrence Fishburn... there's no way this show can't be good, right?  Anderson is a husband and father who comes to realize that his family isn't "black enough" anymore.  His son has started going by Andy instead of Andre, wants to join the field hockey team, have a bar mitzvah and adopt a Jewish name.  He decides they all need to be black, and not black-ish.  It looks really funny, I hope it lives up to my expectations.

~FX-9PM Season 4 October 8th American Horror Story: Freak Show I can't believe that I overlooked American Horror Story!! I feel like I should be fired from writing this blog... but since it's my blog I'll give myself another chance.  If you're not familiar with the show and haven't seen the previous 3 seasons- never fear! Each season is completely new and different from the ones before it.  There is a stellar cast including: Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Gaboure Sidibe (one of my faves) Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters.... The cast is all phenomenal. Creator Ryan Murphy is brilliant and every episode leaves me wanting to see more. This season's installment takes place in Jupiter, Florida in 1952 with the arrival of a freak show... I CAN'T WAIT!!

CBS-8PM Season 10 October 1st  Criminal Minds.  It just wasn't the same after Mandy Patinkin left.
NBC-8PM Season 16 September 24th  Law and Order: SVU
CW-8PM  Season 2  October 22nd  The 100

ABC-9PM Season 3 September 24th Nashville.  I still can't believe I'm watching a show that revolves around country music- since I hate country music.  Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere seriously bring it though.  There is so much talent both musical and acting on this show that I am never disappointed after watching an episode. Can't wait to see what happens with this season!

*CBS-9PM Series Premiere October 1st  Stalker.  I don't know if I'm going to watch Stalker or not, it just seems so creepy.  I certainly don't want to watch a show that will make me paranoid about having a stalker OR nightmares about stalkers.  But then there's Dylan McDermott- who's there to investigate and catch said stalkers, I'm torn!! I probably will watch an episode or two but I make no promises about adding it to the permanent DVR schedule.

NBC-9PM Season 2  September 24th  Chicago PD.   I've never even heard of this show.

Thursdays

ABC-7PM Season 11 September 25th  Grey's Anatomy.   Ummm first of all, what's up with moving Grey's from 8 to 7?? Not cool ABC. So if you haven't watched Grey's anatomy after the first 10 seasons you probably won't start watching now... BUT if you want a quick rundown of how last season went it was a little something like this: Super duper natural disaster catastrophe as always. Meredith had had her baby the previous season finale during the natural disaster. Dr. Webber and the doctor that Yang called Mousey were electrocuted in the basement after said catastrophic storm- most of the season he's recovering from that injury, Mousey died.  Alex reconnects with his addict father who abandoned him (Harry from Dexter) and then dad dies. Kepner and Avery elope then realize that they have very different stances on every religious issue- then she finds out she's pregnant.  Yang tries and fails to win the Harper-Avery award which she later finds out is because she works at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. Callie and Arizona go through major relationship troubles. Meredith and Christina are not being very friendly towards each other since their lives are so different now. Derek promises Mer that this can be "her year" and he'll be the dad and do the kid thing but then he goes back on that.  Burke (remember him from way back) invites Yang to take over his position at a hospital in Switzerland which she accepts. Season finale Yang and Mer say goodbye by dancing to some stupid song in the locker room- it was an extremely anticlimactic goodbye, BUT bright side: they didn't kill her.

CW-7PM Season 6 October 2nd  The Vampire Diaries.   I can't believe that The Vampire Diaries is in it's 6th season.  But it is, and I'm getting a little bored with it all, it's just so.... everywhere? I don't know, unless something drastic happens, this may be my last season to watch. Besides Ian Summerholder it doesn't really have all that much going for it anymore.  I really don't care who Elena ends up with- Damon or Stefan just pick a brother and stick with him, OR here's a novel idea... find someone else who's NOT related to someone you've been pining over/sleeping with. Bonnie's crooked mouth still bothers me, Caroline's personality is annoying and Elena's isn't that much better at this point. The more I write about TVD, the more I realize that I mostly watch out of obligation- and Ian Sommerholder of course.  Since Klaus and "The Original" gang have their own show I much prefer watching that to TVD, womp womp!!

NBC-7PM Season 16 September 11th  The Biggest Loser.
FOX-7PM Season 10 September 25th  Bones.
CBS-7:30 Season 2 October 30th  The Millers.

ABC-8PM Season 4 September 25th  Scandal.  LOVE IT!  This is by far one of my favorite shows. Everything about Scandal is fantastic, the plot is ever thickening and the characters are never who you think they are.  I am SO rooting for President Grant and Olivia to have a happily ever after, but I also could be happy with Olivia and Jake.  But how would that work since Jake and Olivia's dad have their whole beef? And Melly with what's his face Vice President guy? WOW!! The lies and double crossing keep my interest every episode and if I ever have a scandal that I need cleaned up- I definitely want Olivia Pope on my side. If you haven't watched- do yourself a favor and catch up post haste.

*NBC-8PM Series Premiere October 2nd  Bad Judge.  I like Kate Walsh a lot and this show seems perfect for her.  Rebecca is a judge who is possibly a wine-a-holic with a sassy attitude but she has a soft heart. She's a drummer in a band, has a pregnancy scare and helps out a kid in foster care, by teaching him how to sucker punch. She's a pretty cool chick, I mean- she has wine and cake for breakfast, I don't see how Bad Judge won't be fantastic.

*FOX-8PM Series Premiere October 2nd Gracepoint.  I hadn't heard of this show before watching a preview for it.  There's a small-ish town murder of a little boy and this show revolves around solving the case.  It seems really dark and suspenseful, I don't know if I will watch or not. I'll definitely check out one episode but I'm not really feeling dark and depressing as of late.

*CBS-8:30 Series Premiere October 30th  The McCarthys.  Totally 100% NOT feeling this show at all. First it's a laugh track comedy, which I loathe. The McCarthys are a close knit family that live in Boston.  Parents, three adult sons- one of whom is gay and an adult daughter.  The gay son wants to move away to be not so close to his family and they resist the idea. He tells them he wants to be in a vibrant gay community. His mother's response: "You're still gay?" his brother's response: "Isn't every gay community vibrant?" (Add unenthusiastic canned laughter here).  From the extended preview that I saw nothing made me laugh out loud or even smile.  It'll probably be a huge hit, because all crappy laugh track comedies are- but I'm not watching any of the episodes.

*NBC-8:30 Series Premiere October 2nd  A to Z.   This show reminds me a lot of the movie serendipity.  Guy who works at a dating website sees girl, knows he's seen her somewhere before. He asks her on a date and he realizes that years before he saw her at a party she was "the girl" that he remembered from the party- he says their meeting was "meant to be".  She freaks out and says it wasn't her (it was) she ditches him, she later realizes that they should give it a chance and blaah blaah something.  So that's basically it, I will watch one episode because it does seem to have the potential to be a good show- maybe. But it could also be a complete dud.

CBS-8PM Season 12 October 30th  Two and a Half Men

WC-8PM Season 2 October 2nd  Reign.  I watched the first few episodes in season 1 of Reign, it was a pretty good teen drama BUT very historically inaccurate.

*ABC 9PM- Series Premiere September 25th  How to Get Away With Murder.  Shonda Rhimes basically OWNS Thursday nights and is the best thing for ABC since I don't know what.  Obviously if you like her other work you will probably like this show.  Add Viola Davis as a law school professor who is teaching her future defense attorney students "how to get away with murder" and I don't see how the show can go wrong.  I am excited about How To Get Away With Murder and can't wait to add it to my Thursday night lineup.

NBC-9PM Season 6 September 25th  Parenthood.  I have wanted to be a Braverman since I saw the first episode of Parenthood.  The show is SO well cast: Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter, Joy Bryant, Bonnie Bedelia, Craig T Nelson, Jason Ritter... that alone should make anyone a fan.  Every episode of Parenthood makes me want to be from a large family and to have a large family of my own. But then I realize that I barely have the patience for one kid- much less four and I certainly don't want to afford the cost of having that many kids.  So I'm content watching their lives unfold every season.  I hope this isn't the last season, I would miss them all so.

CBS-9PM Season 3 October 30th  Elementary.   This is such a good show, Johnny Lee Miller is fantastic alongside Lucy Liu as the modern day Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.  For some reason I didn't finish watching last season- I have no idea exactly why and unfortunately I probably won't watch this season since Parenthood and How to Get Away With Murder will be on at the same time and I don't have a newfangled DVR that records 100 shows at a time.

Fridays

*ABC-7:30 Series Premiere October 10th Cristela.   The preview for Cristela seems like a few different un-funny shows mashed up into one mediocre laugh track comedy.  Cristela lives with her sister and brother-in-law and their kids while she's going to school to be a lawyer.  According to her mother she's been in school so long.... (insert un-funny joke here).  When Cristela goes to a law firm for an internship(?) she's first mistaken for a cleaning lady, then for someone who validates parking- aaah Hispanic stereotype humor, gets me every time... not. I will definitely not be watching this show at all but I'm sure it, like many others will last longer than some great comedies that don't have a laugh track.

ABC-7PM Season 4 October 3rd  Last Man Standing.  I don't even understand how this show is still on TV, it's SO bad.
CBS-7PM Season 25 September 26th  The Amazing Race.

NBC-8PM Season 4 October 24th  Grimm.   I love Grimm, it's VERY supernatural/ storybook, so right up my alley. I enjoy the premise that the brothers Grimm were actually extraordinary people who saved people from "monsters disguised as people".  All of the childhood fairytales and some you've never heard are incorporated into these episodes.  Sometimes the monsters aren't so bad and sometimes they're worse than you thought possible.  I'm excited about the new season of this for sure.

ABC-8PM Season 6 September 26th  Shark Tank
CBS-8PM Season 5 September 26th  Hawaii Five-0

*NBC-9PM Series Premiere October 24th  Constantine.  Grimm seems like a good lead in for Constantine since the audience will likely be the same.  From the preview that I saw this looks very similar to the movie Constantine with Keanu Reeves, except the lead character in this is British- I do love a great British accent!  Evil spirits lurk everywhere and once you can see them, they can see you and they don't want to be seen... that creeps me out just writing about it.  I will definitely check out Constantine and will probably have nightmares afterward but it'll be worth it, right? Also based on a comic series of which I have no previous dealings with- so for any diehard fans out there, who knows what you'll get?

CBS-9PM Season 6 September 26th  Blue Bloods

Sundays

*CBS-7PM Series Premiere September 21st Madam Secretary.  I am excited to see Téa Leoni in this role.  She plays an ex CIA something or other who's now a college professor of some sort.  The Secretary of State dies in a plane crash and she is selected to be the new one.  She seems pretty bad ass in a smart lady kind of way and I hope this show will be good.

FOX-7:30 Season 2 September 28th  Brooklyn 9-9.   This is one of my favorite comedies to come out in the past few TV seasons, I'm pretty disappointed that FOX moved it from Tuesday night with Mindy Project and New Girl but I guess, to be fair... one of those shows is not like the others?  Not sure how it'll do sandwiched in between FOXs Sunday night cartoons but maybe it will be more successful than it was last season.  Basically I love Andy Samberg and would watch him fold origami or eat sandwiches. But he's not the only great person in the cast, there's also Chelsea Peretti, Andrew Braugher, Terry Crews (from the Old Spice commercials) annnnd others.  The show is silly-funny and makes me laugh every time I watch it.  If you like to laugh, this is the show for you... unless you hate Andy Samberg because then you will HATE Brooklyn 9-9.

ABC-7PM Season 4 September 28th  Once Upon A Time

AMC-8PM Season 5 October 12th  The Walking Dead.   By now you're either watching or you're not. And if you ARE watching- you're probably borderline fanatic about it as all fans of the show are.  I still have some issues with the show- namely the inconsistency of zombies (yes I call them "zombies" and not walkers because I'm not from another planet... here on Earth the walking dead are called zombies-period.)  Sometimes the live characters yell and no zombies come, other times a slightly raised voice or snapped twig brings an army of them.  Sometimes they shamble so slowly a toddler could outrun them and other times they are high school track stars.  That aside, The Walking Dead is still good even though some of my favorite characters died last season.  I'm very nervous about what's to come for the group. I've read that there will be a spinoff series set elsewhere in the country as a stand alone show but in the same zombie apocalypse.  There is no release date for that as of yet.

SHO-8PM Season 4 October 5th  Homeland.   SPOILER: If you haven't seen season 3 STOP.

Homeland is one of the most intense shows to come out in the past few years, with each season more gripping and suspenseful than the one before it.  Following season 3's the death of Brody, and Carrie being pregnant with his baby I have NO IDEA what to expect out of this season of Homeland but I'm so excited to tune in.  I'm also happy that Mandy Patinkin will be back this season, unfortunately he is notorious for leaving great shows part of the way through and shows just aren't the same without him.

*FOX-8:30 Series Premiere October 5th  Mulaney.  This is another horrible name for a TV show- the name alone makes me not want to watch it... BUT since it is a Seinfeld remake I guess they "had" to name it with the standup comedian's last name? I almost didn't watch the preview.  Things Mulaney has going for it: Created by Lorne Michaels (SNL) starring John Mulaney (apparently a writer from SNL), Martin Short, Elliot Gould, other SNL people... as I said earlier it's a remake of Seinfeld-so not really a "new" idea. The Seinfeld format worked... obviously, but will it work for a new generation of people AND for the generation who watched Seinfeld as well?  I guess we'll see. The cons for the show: (besides the awful name that doesn't roll off the tongue) one of the characters seems forced and annoying already- just from a 2 minute preview.  Also the show has a laugh track... I just don't know if it's necessary and I wish someone would outlaw it forever, seriously.

ABC-8PM Season 2 September 28th Resurrection.
CBS-8PM Season 6 September 21st  The Good Wife.

ABC-9PM  Season 4 September 28th  Revenge.
CBS-9PM  Season 15 September 28th  CSI
